Robyn O’Brien: Founder, Executive Director
As a former food industry analyst, Fulbright grant recipient, author and mother of four, Robyn O’Brien brings compassion, insight and detailed analysis to her role as the founder of the organization and her research into the impact that the global food system is having on the health of children.
Robyn triggered an allergic reaction in the food industry when she asked a simple question back in 2006: “Are we allergic to food or to what’s been done to it?”
Robyn’s passion to protect children and the health of our country is hardwired. She is the daughter of a former U.S. Army lieutenant and a nurse who worked with Save the Children. Her passion to restore the health of the world’s children has deep roots, and on Mother’s Day 2009, Random House published her first book, The Unhealthy Truth: How Our Food Is Making Us Sick and What We Can Do About It.
Robyn’s work has been recognized by Ted Turner, Yoko Ono, His Royal Highness Prince of Wales, and Dr. Oz. She has appeared on CNN, Good Morning America, the Today Show and in other media and has been called “food’s Erin Brockovich” by the New York Times, “Visionary” by the Discovery Channel’s Planet Green, one of ten “Women to Shape the World” by SHAPE Magazine and one of “20 Inspiring Women to Follow on Twitter” by Forbes Women.
Robyn ‘s writing has appeared in the press and on countless websites including leading pediatric websites and Martha Stewart’s Whole Living, and she currently writes a column for Prevention called “Inspired Bites.”. She is a sought-after expert on children’s health policy by organizations around the globe.
Born and raised on Twinkies and PoBoys in Houston, Texas, Robyn serves as the Executive Director of AllergyKids and believes that each of us are capable of affecting remarkable change in our lives. Angela Shapiro: Recipe Development
Angela Shapiro is a Natural Chef/Stepmom to 3 beautiful kids/Organic Farmer Friend in New York. Mindful of the principles of SOUL~Seasonal Organic Unrefined Local, and with respect to the allergens that many people face in the diet. Angela attended the Art Institute of Seattle, specializing in Fashion Merchandising; however, following an environmental conservation program in New Zealand through Global Volunteer Network, Angela decided to follow her true passion and obtained her Certified Natural Chef degree from Bauman College in Boulder. Angela firmly believes that people can be truly nourished and healed through wholesome, organic and nutrient dense food (and LOVE of course too..as her grandma Edna always reminded her while cooking). Angela has worked on organic farms all over Colorado State as a CSA Coordinator & Chef de Cuisine, planning farm dinners, cooking/preserving classes and getting her hands in the dirt! She has worked in restaurants fully executing the farm to table movement; in Colorado and New York. She is a graduate with a Culinary Arts degree from Culinary School of the Rockies in Boulder. She recently embarked on the journey of marriage this past October to her wonderful husband Noah Shapiro. Through her marriage to Noah, she “inherited” 3 beautiful stepchildren, Connor, Gabrielle, and Emersen. It was through cooking, love and lots of laughter that continues to bring the family together. Plus 2 dogs, Pippa and Bella who keep stealing the leftovers from the counter.
Derek Koenig, a distinguished marketing and media executive with over 20 years of proven success in building brands and creating multi-media content platforms. Derek started his career as a copywriter at Martitz in Detroit on the Ford account. After earning an MBA from the University of Michigan, Derek joined Leo Burnett in Chicago working on P&G, McDonald’s and Kraft Foods, most notably helping build the Altoid’s franchise. Subsequent client leadership roles included Morgan Stanley, SONY, AOL and Discovery Networks as SVP of Marketing. Most recently, Derek led all Marketing and Sales efforts at Vail Resorts as CMO/SVP, including signing Gold Medalist and World Champion Lindsey Vonn as the face of Vail. Throughout his career, Derek’s efforts have been rewarded with 2 Gold Effies, an Emmy, 30 Promax/BDA awards, 3 Adweek Campaigns of the Year and the AAAA Gold Award for Strategy. Derek lives in Boulder with his wife, 2 children and black lab Jack.
Scott McAllister, Chief Change Agent for Farmers
Scott McAllister is a fourth generation farmer in Henry county Iowa. He successfully operated McAllister Seed Company in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa with his father and held the positions of General Manager and Director of Research. Scott has served as a director on boards for the Independent Professional Seedsman, The Iowa Soybean Association, The Soybean Research Foundation, and National Tractor Pullers Association. Scott graduated from Mt Pleasant Community High School and attended Iowa Wesleyan College. he resides in rural Henry County and is involved in retail farm equipment sales for Morning Sun Farm Implement Company in Morning Sun, Iowa
Lewis Perkins: Chief Change Agent, Atlanta, Georgia
A long-time advocate for “doing the right thing,” Lewis Perkins is a champion for change – personally and professionally. His sustainability consulting group, New House LLC, works with Fortune 500 companies as well as mid-size businesses to develop strategy and solutions to stay competitive in a rapidly shifting corporate landscape, and he is the founding visionary behind Women Are Saving the World Now, a website highlighting conversations with women that are creating change.
Georgina Seeck: Chief Change Agent, West Coast; Development Director
Georgina Seeck created Green Cupcakes & More after discovering her daughter had developed multiple food allergies as an infant. Frustration at trying to feed her child fun food soon turned into passion, and Green Cupcakes & More was created for every child and person who wants to have their cupcakes & eat them, too. Georgina volunteers her time to the AllergyKids Foundation as our Chief Change Agent on the West Coast, creatively bringing an inspired awareness to our mission!
