Thank you for this wonderful post. I find it really sad that we have chemicals out there that can harm us, our children, and our grandchildren. We try to keep our families safe, but are more and more things that are causing health problems. All you can do is try and make good decisions about what you eat, etc., and try to live a healthy life.

Just for clarity, the guideline of "Eat organic food whenever possible..." should come with a caveat to keep readers safe. While synthetic pesticides are forbidden other pesticides are absolutely allowed for organic production.

An important one is Bt, the natural compound from bacteria that is the basis for insect resistance in GM corn and cotton. Safe stuff. There are others. Spinosad (made by Dow), rotenone (kills fish really well, toxic to humans). Sabdilla is toxic to humans and EXTREMELY toxic to bees. These chemicals are all derived from plants or bacteria, so they are assumed safe, but they are toxic. Usually low acute toxicity is pretty much not a problem, and they do break down well in the environment (when that is tested).

So no matter where you get your produce, wash, wash wash. Because the compounds listed above are less effective, they sometimes need considerable applications to protect plant products.

I just wanted to help supplement that note in the report. If you think there are no chemicals used, guess again. Do a little research and make a good decision.
