Emily Makes It EZ: A 16 Year Old Gives Us Reason to Celebrate

The other day we received an email from a 16 year old.  She is so remarkable and gave us such hope that not only can we cure food allergies but also inspire change across generations, restoring the health of our families and our country, that we immediately realized that we needed to feature her as a Food Hero.

Meet Emily, the founder of EZEatings.  She is passionate and smart, founding a company inspired not only by her own initials but also by her own condition.

    Your Name: Emily Zauzmer

Your Occupation: I am a high school student, but outside of school I am the founder of the EZ Network: www.EZeatings.org and www.EZgreetings.org. To help food allergic diners eat safely, EZeatings has compiled the links to the ingredient information provided online by over 60 major chains.  EZgreetings sells $5 email singing grams to raise money for food allergy research at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.

    Your Blog/Website: www.EZeatings.org and www.EZgreetings.org

Your Twitter Profile: @EZtweetings is the Twitter profile of the EZ Network

Your Go-to food that you can’t live without: Pasta! It is my lifelong favorite in all shapes and sizes.

What characteristic do you most admire in a person? Selflessness

What do you most deplore? Dishonesty

What is your best trait? Creativity

Which person living or dead would you most like to have a meal with? I truly admire the late Eunice Kennedy Shriver, the founder of Special Olympics. She helped people worldwide with disabilities, and her compassion inspires me. On top of my respect for Mrs. Shriver, I was quite delighted when I realized that we share a birthday!

What would you serve? A food without tree nuts, legumes, or sesame seeds (my food allergies)!

What trait do you most deplore in our food? I most deplore cross-contamination of allergenic foods with safe foods. Ensuring that the foods I eat have not come in contact with dangerous ones is one of the most difficult parts of staying safe with food allergies.

If you could deliver five words to Congress, what would they be? Please fund food allergy research!

If the USDA asked you to replace the word “Organic,” what word would you use? Healthy

If you were a piece of food, what would you be? Perhaps I would be sprinkles because I love the cheerful, bright colors.

What is your current state of mind? I am honored to be featured as a Food Hero!

What is your motto? EZeatings’ motto is “Dining Out with Food Allergies Made EZer” and EZgreetings’ motto is “Send a Singing Gram and Join the Fight Against Food Allergies!” My personal motto when it comes to food allergies is “It’s always hard, but it’s never impossible.” This motto fits me very well, as I try to stay positive about my condition.
